Language Paper 2 — Q2 (summary)
AQA English · Exam
What you need to know
- Q2 is a summary of differences or similarities.
- You must use both sources (and usually a specified section of each).
- Simple method (safe + high scoring):
- Re-read the question and underline the focus (e.g. attitudes, experiences, feelings).
- Draw a 2-column table: Source A / Source B.
- Find 3 clear points (each point must be supported by text evidence).
- Write 3 comparative sentences/mini-paragraphs: Both… / However A… whereas B…
Common mistakes
- Writing about only one source.
- Copying huge quotes instead of summarising.
- Making inferences that aren’t supported by the text.
- Listing points without comparing.
Self-check
- I used both sources in every point.
- Each point is a summary, not analysis of language.
- I used comparative connectives: both, similarly, whereas, however.
- My points directly answer the question focus.
