What you need to know

• Analyse structure: how the text is put together (beginning → middle → end).
• Track focus shifts: setting, character, perspective, pace.
• Use structural methods: zoom in/out, contrast, cyclical structure, sentence length, paragraphing.

Common mistakes

• Doing language analysis instead.
• Listing techniques without linking to overall effect.
