Alternative interpretations (how to do it without forcing it)

Key steps (method)
- Pick a quote with ambiguity (or at least two plausible readings).
- Write your main interpretation first (clear + supported by language).
- Add a second interpretation using: Alternatively / Another reading is…
- Anchor it in the same words (don’t invent a new idea).
- Decide which reading best fits the writer’s overall message.
Common mistakes
- Adding a second interpretation that isn’t supported by the quote.
- Writing “some people think…” with no explanation.
- Using alternative interpretations everywhere (one good one beats three forced ones).
